Mud puddles, speckled eggs and cozy sheep’s wool…It’s a day in the country for mom and baby.
It starts when we pull on rubber boots. Then we’re ready to splash in puddles, pet the cozy sheep’s wool and explore the sounds and sights of the farm. When we’re all done, we go inside to hang socks to dry, take a warm bubble bath and snuggle up in bed under the stars.
Laurie Elmquist is the author of several books for young readers including Where’s Burgess? which was short-listed for both the Chocolate Lily Award and the Silver Birch Award. She holds an MA in Literature and creative writing from the University of Windsor in Ontario and has been published in several magazines and anthologies. She lives in Victoria, British Columbia.
Ellen Rooney is an award-winning designer, artist and children’s book illustrator. Her textural mixed media artwork combines many traditional art techniques, like pencil drawing, painting, printmaking and collage, often combined with digital techniques. She was the winner of the 2021 Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize for Grandmother School. Originally from Massachusetts, she now lives in the southern Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.
